It used to be that only cowboys and rodeo queens wore western style boots, but these days some designers are taking inspiration from the Wild West and creating boots that are based on the classic cowboy boot design-- with extra flair for fashionistas!
Nine West, for instance, has the simple but stylish Movenshake Boot ($129) in brown and black. These are basic western boots that can be paired with anything from jeans to bohemian style dresses. A pair of boots like this are a staple wardrobe item and will literally last you a lifetime of wear with proper care.
For a boot with a little more pizzazz, check out Stuart Weitzman’s Hillbilly ($450) which takes the traditional black cowboy boot and spices it up with a 2 ¾” heel, metal stud work, and a combination of smooth leather and a faux croc embossed leather. In Weitzman’s hands the boots become sexy and feminine without losing their authentic western appeal. These would look adorable with a pair of black leggings and a gold blouse. If you’re really feeling it, find yourself a black cowboy hat and really set the room abuzz.
Steve Madden makes an ankle western boot called Vestedd ($150), available in black or a laid back distressed brown leather. It’s a fun design that is easy enough to wear with practically everything. And for something extra special, consider the Frye Carson Boot ($350) in hand-finished, antiqued jade colored leather. These boots are the perfect blend between classic styling and trendy design. They belong as much with a silk dress as they do jeans.
Contrary to what you might think, western boots don’t necessarily need to be worn for rugged, outdoor activities. Hundreds of celebrities are spotted wearing these perennial favorites in every color and style imaginable. One of the hottest trends among young Hollywood elite is to wear the boots with a short dress. They have also been worn with leggings and of course, denim. Stars from Jessica Simpson to Mary Kate Olsen are rocking these looks.
Western boots are a favorite among both men and women, old and young. They can be simple and chic, or colorful and festive. Many people favor western style boots made out of exotic skins such as ostrich or alligator. In southern U.S. states, making boots is a time honored tradition, and there are some true artists, incorporating an enormous amount of skill in leather work to create one-of-a-kind boots for their clients. Regardless of your personal preference and your overall wardrobe aesthetic, there is sure to be a pair of western boots to suit you perfectly.
